Diana Brebner Prize

Arc: Canada’s National Poetry Magazine invites emerging Ottawa writers to be recognized for their talent through a special award for poets who have not yet been published in book form. The prize is named in honour of the late Diana Brebner, an award-winning, Ottawa-based poet who was devoted to fostering literary talent among new local writers.
Guidelines
Entry fee is $23 for up to two poems and includes a one-year subscription to Arc, beginning with the Summer 2010 issue, for yourself or a friend. (If you already have a subscription, you can give your new one-year subscription to a friend. Please include their mailing address.)
All cheques or money orders should be made out to the Arc Poetry Society. You can now pay by credit card or paypal as well as by cheque or money order through the Poetry Stand.
Length of each poem must not exceed 30 lines (including spaces).
Entrant’s name, address, e-mail, or phone number must not appear on the poem, but on a separate sheet of paper that also lists the titles of the poems entered.
Entrants must be residents of the National Capital Region and not have yet published their poetry in book form.
No simultaneous submissions or previously published poems will be accepted.
Judging is blind.
The winner and one honourable mention will be published in Arc’s Summer 2010 issue (Published June 2010). Arc will host a public reading for both poets around that time.
No e-mail submissions will be accepted.
No entries will be returned.

Privacy Notice: Unless you indicate otherwise, Arc may share addresses of entrants to the 2009 Diana Brebner Prize with similar literary magazines or related organizations for promotional purposes. If you would like your address information kept private, write “Please don’t share my address” near your address information on the sheet you include with your submission. Readers‘ Choice Award
The next Readers‘ Choice Award reading session will run from March 15 to March 30, 2010!
In 2008, Arc introduced a totally new facet to its perennial Poem of the Year contest: the Readers‘ Choice Award. This gives Arc readers and website visitors the opportunity to read through Poem of the Year shortlisted poems, and vote for your favourite. The author of the winning poem will be awarded a sum of $250.

The Readers’ Choice Award does not affect the process of selecting 1st, 2nd and 3rd place Poem of the Year 2009 winners, which—along with all Honourable Mentions and Editors’ picks—will be announced in the Winter 2010 issue to be released in early December 2009.

Submission Details for the 4th annual Lampman-Scott Award
The Arc Poetry Society is accepting submissions for the 2010 Lampman-Scott Award for Poetry. Named after the 19th-century Confederation poets, Archibald Lampman and Duncan Campbell Scott, the award recognizes an outstanding book of English-language poetry by an author living in the National Capital Region.
- Eligible entries are English-language books of poetry published between January and December 2009 by a recognized publisher.
- Eligible books must be no less that 48 pages in length.
- The contest is open to residents of the National Capital Region.
- Prize: $1500

Words, Words, Words: The annual Shakespeare By The Sea Festival Sonnet Contest (for NL residents): Deadline: March 15. Members of the general public, as well as students in grades 3 through 12 in the Eastern School District of Newfoundland and Labrador, are invited to submit original sonnets on any subject and in any voice.
Entries must follow the Shakespearean sonnet form: 14 lines of iambic pentameter, an ABAB CDCD EFEF GG rhyme scheme. A good overview of the elements of a Shakespearean sonnet can be found on the Poetry Doctor website.
A panel of judges from will select the winning sonnet plus two runners-up in each of four categories: Grades 4-6; Grades 7-9; Grades 10-12; Adult. Entries must include name and contact information (phone and email) with all sonnet submissions. Student submissions must also include age, school, and grade level. Entries will only be accepted by email (no later than 11:59 p.m. on March 15, 2010) to sbts@nfld.com.
Winners will be announced on Shakespeare’s Birthday (April 23, 2010). Winners and runners-up in each category will receive a set of four passes to the 2010 Shakespeare By The Sea Festival (approximate value $120). The winners will also each receive a $100 cash prize and will be invited to read their poems aloud for broadcast on CBC Radio’s Weekend AM show on April 24, 2010. Winning entries will also be published in the April 24 edition of The Telegram newspaper as well as in the 18th annual Shakespeare By The Sea Festival program.

КЊИЖЕВНИ КОНКУРС ЗА ЗБОРНИК РАДОВА „ЗАВЕШТАЊА 2010“
УДРУЖЕЊЕ српских писаца – Швајцарска расписује свој шести конкурс за зборник радова „Завештања 2010“.
На конкурс слати необјављене радове ( формат А4, фонт ћирилица, Times New Roman, величина 12, проред 1,5)
Право да учествују имају писци, чланови Удружења, као и гости – српски писци који живе у свим европским и ван европским земљама.
Конкурс је отворен од 1. децембра 2009. до 15. априла 2010.

Све радове прегледаће основана трочлана комисија Удружења српских писаца.
Сваки аутор може да пошаље највише десет песама ( десет страна), или прозни текст са највише десет страна. На страни А4 песма не може да има више од 24 реда, а прозни текст не више од 30 редова. Обавезна је кратка биографија и фотографија.
Учешће се плаћа 100 франака. Сваком аутору припада 10 књига.
